A trip to Northern California could be the exact thing that many travelers are seeking. Southern California does get most of the attention nationally when it comes to tourists, but there are some incredible things to see in the northern part of the state too. The coastal areas are beautiful, San Francisco is a really exciting city, and the inland forests and mountains offer some fabulous things to do. Here is a look at three awesome things to do when on a vacation to Northern California.
Fisherman’s Wharf – San Francisco
One of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire city of San Francisco is Fisherman’s Wharf. The wharf itself has a fascinating history and the surrounding area is filled with some of the best attractions around. Among the many other features of Fisherman’s Wharf that are popular with travelers are Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, the Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf, the Cannery Shopping Center, Pier 39, and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park
A visit to Northern California isn’t complete without a trip out to see the famous Giant Redwoods that are found there. The park is home to 18,000 acres of protected land, more than 10,000 of which are covered with beautiful old growth forest. There are great wildlife viewing opportunities in the park and it isn’t uncommon to see a number of different animals there including raccoons, squirrels, black-tailed deer, and chipmunks among others. The park sits just 20 miles northwest of the city of Santa Cruz and is one of the more incredible natural areas that any traveler could ever hope to see.
Visit the Lighthouses of Northern California
There are a number of benefits that come from a vacation that involves visiting lighthouses. Lighthouses are beautiful architectural structures, many of them also possess a good amount of history too. One of the best attributes though of lighthouses is the sometimes amazing view that can be had from the top. The views available from the many lighthouses in Northern California are all great and ust one more reason that anyone visiting the area should definitely remember to bring their camera. Some of the lighthouses available for visiting include the St. George Lighthouse, Battery Point Lighthouse, Point Arena Light House, and the Point Cabrillo Light Station.
There may be other more popular vacation destinations, but when given the chance Northern California can compete with them too. A vacation to beautiful Northern California can be one of the best vacations in a traveler’s life. The things to experience there truly need to be seen to be believed.
